How the scoring works
Words per minute uses the standard formula: correctly typed characters divided by five (an average word length), divided by the time elapsed in minutes. Only correct characters count toward net WPM — a fast run full of mistakes scores lower than a slightly slower, accurate one. Raw WPM counts everything typed, mistakes included, so comparing the two shows exactly how much errors are costing you.
Consistency measures how steady your pace was across the whole test rather than just the average — a score close to 100% means you kept a level rhythm throughout; a jagged, uneven typing speed pulls it down even if the final WPM looks fine. Your personal best for each test length is remembered in your own browser between visits, with no account needed, so every run has something to beat.
The text keeps generating for as long as the timer runs, so there's no fixed passage to memorize — every attempt uses a fresh sequence of common English words. Press Tab at any time while typing to instantly restart with a new passage.
Once the timer runs out, a results screen shows your full breakdown — including which single letter you mistyped most often, a useful thing to know if you're trying to improve. A short sound plays on each typo as extra feedback while you type (a small speaker icon lets you turn it off), and the page dims everything except the typing box itself once you start, so there's nothing else competing for attention.

How is WPM calculated?

What's the difference between net and raw WPM?
Raw WPM counts everything typed, mistakes included. Net WPM only counts correct characters, so it drops when accuracy drops. Net WPM is the more meaningful number, since typing fast with lots of errors isn't actually useful.
What does the consistency score mean?
It measures how even your typing rhythm was throughout the test, not just your average speed. Two runs can finish at the same WPM, but one built up steadily while the other alternated between bursts and stalls — consistency is what tells those apart.
Is my typing data or personal best saved anywhere?
Your personal best per test length is saved locally in your own browser, purely so you have something to beat next time — it never leaves your device, there's no account, and no server ever sees it. Everything else about the test itself runs in memory and disappears on refresh.
Why can't I paste text into the typing box?
Pasting is disabled on purpose — the whole point of the test is measuring how fast and accurately you type, and allowing a paste would let the result be faked instantly.
What does "most missed letter" tell me?
It's the single character you mistyped most often during that run. If the same letter keeps showing up, it's usually a sign of exactly which key your fingers haven't fully learned yet, which is more actionable than just knowing your overall accuracy percentage.
