How this actually works
This isn't a font β Unicode includes entire alternate alphabets as distinct characters, originally meant for mathematical notation. Each letter gets swapped for its look-alike in one of those alphabets, which is why the result is genuine text that pastes correctly anywhere plain text works, not an image.

Why does it work in a bio but not in every app?
Almost everywhere, since it's just Unicode text, not an image or a font file. Very rarely, an app's font doesn't include glyphs for these characters and shows a blank box instead — uncommon, but possible.
Why do italic and circled styles skip some characters?
A few specific letters and the circled zero live in different, non-adjacent parts of Unicode for historical reasons, and are handled as exceptions here so they map correctly instead of turning into unrelated symbols.
